January recap

January 2010 was a good month and a great way to start the new decade. Here's what went down around here...

1) Nothing better than starting this decade with a little Michael Jackson dance off on NYE.

2) Guest bedroom is almost done and is ready for all you visitors. One of my favorite visitors will be here in a few hours for our celebratory wine night.

I still need
--window panels
--another lamp for 2nd bedside table
--a pair of old antique oars for above the bed.

3) We attended a wedding and I finally got to meet all of Tony's family. Tony has not seen his first cousins in close to 20 years--- crazy I know.  The women in Tony's family all have amazing names.  My favs are: Mary Esther, Aurora, Antoinette.  They refer to Tony as T.C. (short for Tony Cameron) and always have according to Tony.  I think the T.C. thing may stick...I love it.

{t.c., my sister in law, and their first cousins}

4) Breakfast room is complete, except for a rug.  Still searching...
5) Dining room is almost complete--- only thing left to do is hang my calendar prints.
6) We upgraded to a king size mattress.
7) Tony had strep throat for a week. This was fun.  {in my most sarcastic voice}
8) Work was very good for both of us this month.

That's it and that's all, folks.  Signing off now to prepare for a little of this...

Good deal Thursday

Looking for good deals on home decor?  Want to jump on the garden stool trend? If so, run don't walk to Burlington Coat Factory. Yes, you heard correctly.  I've never been in a BCF and had no idea they sold home goods. After a friend mentioned it for the second time I adorned my bullet proof vest (the closest BCF is in a shady shopping center) and went in. After an hour of checking out just the home furnishings during which I filled up my shopping cart and then unloaded it after envisioning Tony's disapproving look I walked out with this.
{Price tag... $29.00}

Here's Pottery Barn's $159 version.
Wisteria's $129 version

I think this qualifies as a steal!

Wine and Dine

Our dining room is coming together.  Be sure to check back for its completeness in a couple weeks.  This is our current dining room.

{paint is our go-to color:  RH Silver Sage}
{table is from Houston's own Chic Warehouse. Go here if you haven't yet because you can't beat the quality or the price}
{chairs: Pier One a couple years ago}
{Canvas is from Ikea.  I don't love it, but Tony does so it's staying for now}
{the Frames are from the demolition of all the excess molding in our house prior to our remodeling. I have a couple cute idea for inside the frames, but you'll have to wait for the final reveal.}

Here's what will be added very soon.

Cavallini Flora and Fauna calendar arrived Monday (man, this was hard to find)

These 4 prints from the calendar will be framed on either side of the window and door.

To finish off the room, I need this lantern.  I haven't located one for a  price that Tony can live with reasonable price yet. Let me know if you come across one.

Happy Hump Day! I, for one, am glad this week is almost done

R & R (and longest post ever)

Oh how I love vacations (as does everyone else right?).  I seriously go into a state of depression if I don't have a vacation coming up or in the works. I knew it was time to plan a vacation when my boss and my patients started asking if I had one planned. Trust me when I say that's their polite way of telling me I've been a bit cranky difficult to tolerate lately. If only Tony would realize my secret to happiness and plan a trip for me every six months.

Here's some pictures we took during our 2009 travels. Cabo in March and Italy (Rome, Florence, and Como) in July.

If all goes as planned we will be here in March.
That's right, London!  We are hoping to go for a week to stay with some friends currently living in London.  Hannah and Seth, we can't wait to see you two.  Everyone else keep your fingers crossed it works out before I get fired

Put a wreath on it

The Martha in me convinced me to stop at Hobby Lobby this week and buy materials for this.

I love wreaths but hate paying the price for a nice wreath. This baby cost a total of $15 and about one hour to make. I think Martha would be proud.

Styrofoam circle $2.99
Moss $5.99 x 2 (needed two bags)
Hot glue (already had on hand)

I plan to change the ribbon every couple of months. Right now I am using my spring-like, easter egg colored ribbon.  I plan to use this navy blue and white striped ribbon during the summer months for more of a nautical feel.

Forgot to mention that I stocked up on ribbon while at Hobby Lobby because it was 50% off.

Firm or Plush

There are only two things that Tony and I disagree about on a consistent basis. (Only two, seriously!) The first being the temperature inside the car.  Dual climate control in our vehicles is a must.  Tony prefers the temperature to be set at 64 degrees at all times.  I think he compromised on 70 when it was 20 degrees outside a couple weeks ago, but that's rare.  I prefer it to be 90 degrees a bit warmer inside the car.

We also find ourselves in constant disagreement about which type of mattress is the best.  I prefer a softer mattress, better known as plush in mattress lingo. Tony prefers to sleep on a firm mattress.  Picking out a mattress with Mr. I slept on a futon for 3 years as a teenager(true story) on Saturday was fun.

We went to Mattress Firm (had to support one of the largest employers of SFA grads).  After a couple hours of "too firm, too soft, too firm, too soft", we finally agreed on the very last mattress we laid on. Fortunately for us it was on sale. They delivered it Saturday night, and even the dogs are sleeping better.  This morning the alarm actually woke me up for a change...not Carter.

Here it is...
We will attempt to make this DIY headboard.  Read more about it here.

I want to stick with white bedding even though I have to wash it all on a weekly basis because of the dogs; however, I will be adding some ivory in the bedskirt and headboard this time. This is what I want.  Fingers crossed I can get close.

Fingers also crossed that Overstock gets more of this beauty in stock for the foot of the bed.

Rolling out the Red Carpet

Did you watch the Golden Globes? I found myself flipping back and forth between the awards show and 24.

Here's my favorite. Then again when is she not...

I love you Sandra, but seriously this purple dress didn't do it for me or for you.(We'll blame it on the fabric) Congrats on the win though.

I finally took my boys to the groomers today.  They are now worthy of their own post.  I refused to post pics of them prior to today because  they would prove I've been a bad and neglectful mom they had shaggy hair and dirty eyes.

Meet Sam

Meet Carter
Tony rescued Carter from a shelter last February while I was off shopping at Anthropologie. Lesson learned--- I can never let this boy near an animal shelter without supervision ever again.  The shelter is still open and is conveniently located in a shopping center with Anthropologie and Williams-Sonoma.  It's sabotage, I say. You'll understand why we couldn't resist though when you see the next picture.  Isn't he sweet?

Sam is a lover and may or may not be a tad bit spoiled.  Carter gets his way often too.  I mean who could resist those big brown eyes?  I get this look often.

P.S.  In celebration of Carter's one year anniversary with us we bought a new KING size mattress and box springs today.  Oh, don't give me that look--- both Carter and Sam sleep in the bed with us.  We all need more room. Carter will love it. Another lesson learned--- I will leave Tony at home next time I mattress-shop.  More about that later. Happy Saturday.
