Preston's Surgery

The decision has been made, and Preston will have open heart surgery tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. Dr. Heinley will be doing the surgery, and he will be closing up the tunnel that leaks blood back into P's left ventricle.  He may need to re-implant the right coronary artery during the procedure if he finds the artery comes off the tunnel. There is some concern with how his valves (the mitral and aortic valves) will function after the closure of the tunnel.

As for now Preston just got his own room in the CVICU and he remains stable.  He working a little harder to breath today, and they have started him on some diuretics to take the load off his heart.

The surgery will take about 6-7 hours.  Please pray specifically for: 1) knowledge and wisdom for the medical team and doctors 2) guidance for the hands of the surgeon and surgery team 3) strength for Preston 4) peace and strength for us.

My husband is being so stoic. I, however, cry when he cries.  I'm trying to prepare myself for tomorrow. Go Team Preston!

Preston has a new friend named Field, and Field is having open heart surgery today.  If you have some extra prayers to spare please send some up in Field's name.

I read about you and your son on another friend's blog and I think it's absolutely amazing at the love and support you have from the blogging community.

My momma is having open-heart surgery at the end of this month and I've been nervous for her, but I can only imagine what you must be feeling for your baby boy. I admire your strength and courage and I will keep Preston and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Team Preston!

Hi ~ I am following your blog through a mutual friend (Missy Johnson) I have been where you are right now. I have twin girls and one of my babies had to have open heart surgery when she was 6 months old. We also chose Texas Childrens Hospital to fix her broken heart and we are so thankful to have that hospital so close to home!! Tomorrow will be a hard day for you, your husband and your family but remember that you made all the right decisions to get him to where he is now. You will make it through each update and they will become easier to hear as you find out the progress and realize that they are taking care of him like he is one of their own. God bless you all and your little man tomorrow, my prayers are with you!! From one heart mom to another ~ Amy Johnson

I won't pretend to know how you must be feeling right now, although my brother had open heart surgery when he was 18 so I have an inkling.
Prayers are continually being offered up for Preston and yourselves (and Field). Hang in there.

First of all, I love all the pictures, especially the one in the green beanie. He looks perfect.... its hard to believe that his little heart is broken. But I have faith that the amazing doctors and nurses are going to mend him tomorrow. I can't imagine what you guys are feeling or going through, but one this is for sure.... Preston is one lucky little dude to have you and Tony! Hang in there... and let God do what he does best! Love you guys!
