up all night.

The Gherkin and I have been looking forward to the new show Up All Night with Christina Applegate and Will Arnett. These two are new parents, with a new baby, who, much like us, are trying to figure out this thing called parenting.

I swear they took some of their lines directly from inside the walls of our house, and yes, we're still up all night in this house.

So serious talk now... why won't my baby sleep?  What am I doing wrong?  Do you have a secret?  If so, spill it now!

"We are on your side!"

When and how often is P waking up?

I have been wanting to see this show. I am going to write it down right now to remember DVR it.

So now sleepy for you or P:( I have a sound machine and his seahorse that I swear by. Maybe try that?

We have it DVR'd to watch this weekend! I laughed so hard at the line "We're on your side!". Oh, how many nights we said that :)

I am a HUGE believer in the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child (although I read the twin version). It is dog-eared now by how many times I referred to it. We also did the sound machine (and still do). Lullabies at night to signal nighttime and then white noise of some kind during the day to signal naps.

I wanted to watch it but forgot to DVR it!! The only book I read when I was pregnant w/ Tatum was Babywise. I followed that and it worked for us. Hope you find something that will work!

As we were watching it I was thinking of you and Breann and how it was nice to have some verification of how crazy its been.
Now for the sleeping... we use noise. At first a sound machine, and now a fan.
Callen is now the 4th generation in my family addicted to sleeping with noise.

we thought it was really cute!!

We are doing Moms On Call and seems to be getting the babes on a schedule! I would definitely recommend trying it out. The online seminar will guide you on what to do!

You don't know me, but I'm a fellow Texan (DFW area) and mommy to a 11 month old sweet boy. I read Babywise and he was sleeping through the night (10p-6a) at 9 weeks. I dropped all night time feeds at 8 weeks. I am a big believer of scheduling and a nightly bedtime routine. Grayson gets a bottle at 7pm, then baby food (Babywise method and 4 hour feeding schedule), then bath, he gets to play until 8:30, then we read him a book and put him to bed. I did vary from Babywise in that we rock him to bed at night. I'm a full time working mommy and love this extra time with my little guy. He now sleeps 8:30p-7am. We recently dropped his third nap. Also, I bought a little travel fan (9") for $5 at the dollar store and use it for white noise. I have it on the floor by his bed.

ohhh man...from my experience IVE GOT NO CLUE

reid was a great sleeper until a month ago when those 4-5 teeth broke through. it's like now he is trained to get up and not put himself back to sleep.

i think i slept more when he was a newborn.

last night was a bit better...he passed out by 8 and woke at 2ish...i think he woke up at 4am and i ignored him for about 2 mins and he went back to sleep....then he was up at 6 and then back up for the day at 8.

and yes, you are not alone (regrading the email)

maybe they just miss our gorgeous faces

Loved the show!

I have no advice for sleep. I have a 2 1/2 year old that slept all night from day 1. I have a 1 1/2 month old that didn't sleep for more than 3 hours at a time until about 2 months ago! We tried everything. Babywise, schedules, Happiest Baby, etc. Nothing worked for our little one. All babies are different. I finally just gave up and decided that we were all happier if we just got up and played or rocked. Finally, she started sleeping!

I can not wait to watch that show!! And, B is almost 11 months old and just now starting to sleep through the night ( I sure hope I didn't just jinx myself:)). We do let him fuss a little and he has a lovie that hes grown quite fond of that he sleeps with. I hope it gets better for y'all soon!

We loved the show, too! It's real. Ha!
Sorry I don't have any brilliant advice to give you on getting P to sleep. :(
Hope you get it worked out, though.

It is so funny how many of those lines are realistic!

Did you ever skim Ferber? I SWEAR by the re-teaching sleep associations stuff in there - worked like a charm for us. I also have the No Cry Sleep Solution and thought it was a total waste of money.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with a baby who refuses to sleep through the night. We're trying just about everything and still no luck! I would like to mention that I purchased the $30 Moms on Call online seminar and was very disappointed to find out that their method is to put your baby in his crib at night, shut the door and don't open it again until morning. Yikes! No thank you! Don't waste your money.
Good luck!

Jack used to be an awesome sleeper, but sometime around the 22 month mark, he just decided sleep is over-rated! He's only slept through the night a handful of times since early May. I moved him to a big bed and it has helped a little. Can't wait to see what other advice you get, b/c I need it too!!

Breann said...

It took 6 months but he eventually slept all night on his own. We use loud white noise (rain) plus I have no fewer than 10 pacifiers in his crib. I also have a few soft rattles and sometimes I wake up and he is playing with the rattles and then he goes back to sleep. I never ever ever feed him if he does wake up at night. He takes (4) bottles a day of 6 oz each and solids at each bottle. I don't really have "advice" just - that is what works for us...
That show was hilarious! I was thinking of you and laughing so hard at the "i'll give you a million dollars if you get up"

I wish I dvr'd it! You don't know me, but I have an almost 3yo and a 4mo. I was totally desperate beause my daughter was NOt sleeping through the night at 8 months. She'd wake up to eat and it would take sever hours to get back her back to sleep (insert maniacal mom here). Finally, after a hellish night and pooh smeared all over her crib in the morning, someone finally told me to stop going in at night. That worked. She would sit there for a long time. I realized she considered it play-time. I read every sleep book in the library and Weissbluth's is the best. Good luck.

We have the same issue. JW is still getting up at least 1 time per night. Some nights just a little soothing and he's back to sleep and others - its the long haul. We usually rock him to sleep, but this week we started rocking him a couple minutes and putting him in the crib. First night 20 minutes of crying, forth night 5 minutes of crying. Hoping it slows down. Also started using a white noise machine. we have the little lamb, but it shuts off. White noise runs all night. Not to jinx and it might have been a fluke, but he slept 8:30P - 7:30A last night. Good Luck! I know we mommies want some sleep!

I missed it?!?! Dang it I so wanted to see that show!!!!

We used the Baby Wise method with E and she is an amazing sleeper. It's very, very scheduled. I've also heard good things about Moms on Call. Email me if you have any questions and I'll see if I can help. Hope he gets to sleeping soon!

Hey, can you do like a 24 hours schedule for Preston like his feedings, nap time, play time, etc? Thanks.

It's such a cute show! Field didn't sleep through the night until he was almost 9 months old. It was definitely rough but one night we went to bed and woke up the next morning (well, yes, I did check the monitor a few times:) and realized he slept all night. It was glorious! You'll get there!

I can sympathize with you on the fact than my 10 mt. old daughter Gianna still get's up 1-2x's a night. I still nurse her and when she wakes she always seems hungry so I do nurse her which a lot of people say no, but how do you really know if they are hungry. We also have a 4 yr old son Gavin and he was never a good sleeper but eventually he started sleeping well and sleeps 12 hrs now, there is hope. I guess my advice is some babies are good sleepers/some aren't and I think unfortunately you have to ride this one out.

I was so excited about that show too! The best line EVER is when the baby starts crying and the husband is sleeping and he says, "I will pay you 1 million dollars if you go!" hysterical..I am pretty sure that is me and my husband. Good luck with P and sleeping. My pediatrician was so big on putting her down awake from the beginning. I had to let her cry it out, but I got lucky and it took like one night and she only cried for like 15 minutes. I know others are not so lucky. Do you still feed him when he wakes up?
He will get it! Hang in there sleepy mommy! It is so stressful when you have to work isn't it!!!!!
