my baby has extensions.

Sooo I've mentioned on here that Preston's lovie has always been and remains to be hair. My hair. Our nanny's hair. Now he's resorted to pulling his hair if mine or Rosa's isn't available.

If/when he wakes up at night, he'll take his pacifier but, dang it, he wants some hair.

Soooo I got my baby some extensions.
Don't judge me.  Better than him pulling all of his hair (or mine) out, right?

My sister, who's a stylist, gave us a couple strands of extensions (at my request).

The boy's not dumb.  He knows the difference between the extensions and my hair when I'm rocking him to sleep, but once he's out he either doesn't recognize or doesn't mind.

When he tried to wake up at 5 a.m. the week of spring forward, I snuck an extension in his hand and he slept until 7:30 a.m.  Hallelujah!

He'll no doubt kill me for this post when he's older. I apologize in advance, little buddy.

product of the week: my favorite towels.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

White bedding, white sheets, white towels, white wine... I love everything white!

While I love Restoration Hardware's Turkist towels, I can't always afford their price tags.

Someone recommended these Thomas O'Brien towels from Target a few years ago.

We're working on two years using ours, and I'm impressed with how well they've held up.

It's so hard to keep white towel looking, well, white and fluffy, but I promise these still do.

Do I dare say that they've held up better than our much more expensive Pottery Barn towels?

FYI: Starting this week and continuing at least through the summer, Aly and I will switch off hosting POTW linkups every other week.  I'm hosting this week.  Aly will host next week.  Making sense?  Get those posts ready, and don't worry we will keep you guys up to date and send you to the corresponding blog for the link up.

** I recently saw some poorly rated reviews on Target.com regarding the darker colors of this towel brand.  The costumers complained about the colors fading and/or running.  Please note that I can only speak for the white Thomas O'Brien towels as I've never tried any other colors.

winner {stella & dot giveaway}

Laura from Cowboy Boots and Baby Booties won the stella & dot earrings.

Congrats, Laura.  E-mailing you shortly.

the rodeo.

I didn't think Preston would enjoy the rodeo and the animals yet so I didn't plan on hitting up the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this year.  My friend, Elizabeth, convinced me otherwise and so we went.
A great time was had by all. I especially loved the petting zoo and this little baby goat that I should've snuck in Preston's backpack and brought home with us.
Now once we decided to go to the rodeo, I also decided that no matter how many calories I consumed I was NOT leaving the rodeo without some kind of fried dessert.  It was a tough decision.  I mean how is one to choose between fried twinkies, fried oreos, or fried cookie dough.  I opted for the fried cookie dough (see middle pic below).  I know it looks disgusting but it was worth every.single.calorie

Peace out, HLSR.  Until next year...

Project 365 {366}: wk 12

Holy cow! We are already 12 weeks into 2012. How'd that happen so quickly?
sleeping baby's hand
I think my instagram caption went a little like this:
This boy loves to be groomed. He is his father's son.
He seriously cries if I forget to brush his teeth after bath time.
Doctor's appointment on Thursday and praying for a good report.
Don't mind a clinic that has foot rests and reclining chairs in its waiting room.
Their new thing... roller coaster style.

Mr. Gnome I painted during Sunday School's monthly mom hour at Mad Potter.
I shared an ice cream cone with my little fellow this week. His first.  My one too many.

never too young to help out in the yard.

shout out to tervis tumblers.

All in a weeks time my car's check engine light came on, I shattered my iPhone, crashed my computer, and one of my tervis tumblers cracked.

I was feeling pretty down and out about my streak of bad luck when Mr. Gherkin said that he heard tervis carries a lifetime warranty and that supposedly they'll replace broken or cracked tumblers.

So I checked out the website and, sure enough, found a form to fill out.  I mailed in the form and the broken tumbler, and they sent me a brand new tumbler free of charge, no questions asked.  I just paid $2.50 to send the broken tumbler back to tervis

The turn around was about three weeks. Now that, friends, is customer service!

project 365 {366}: wk 11

I bought these.  They were just ok at room temp, but they were some kind of  delicious frozen.
One day I'm sure he'll kill me for posting this picture, but it's ok, buddy, it happens to the best of us.  Trust me
On the organization kick I've been on lately, I managed to clean out a couple of drawers.  Now our k-cups fit nice and neatly in a drawer under our Keurig for easy and quick access.
this boy LOVES black beans.
the pollen has taken over our backyard.  yuck, yuck, yuck!
It starts with sticks, so I hear.  It's only a matter of time before I find pockets full of roly poly bugs and frogs.

product of the week: bumble & bumble texture

My hair is straight as a board.  It's funny, though, since having Preston I've noticed the tiniest bit of wave in the back of my hair.  Sides are still straights as a board though.  What's up with that?

via

I love the look of natural curls.  Isn't it funny that girls with straight hair tend to want wavy hair and girls with curly hair tend to want straight hair.  Grass always seems greener on the other side, huh?

Thanks to the texture cream from Bumble and Bumble and the waves Preston sent my way, I can now get a semi-wavy look.

I've tried quite a few things.  Nothing else has worked like this Bb texture creme does.

Can you see the waves?   They're not big, but I promise they're there.

You linking up or what?  Can't wait to see what you've got.

project 365 {366}: wk 10

first up, happy spring forward!
We've been enjoying the smell of wildflowers on our walks each day and the lovely neon green coating of pollen on our cars and patio furniture.  hello allergies!
We took a quick trip to good ole East Texas to visit family last weekend.  Preston collected himself some Mardi Gras beads while his mom and dad had their first crawfish of the year at my brother in law's crawfish joint, the Boil-n-Go.  You should check it out if you're in the area.
The neighbors blew up the neighborhood bouncy house... Preston is NOT a fan and I shattered my iPhone shortly after taking these pictures.   fun times!
I feel like a real woman now that I made my first recipe containing leeks. I made this and it was scrumptious. Did you know Friday was national crab meat day?  We had crabmeat... it was unintentional planning though.  It rained all weekend long.  I welcomed our much needed rain and was excited about breaking in our new rain gear (p.s. I bought a pair of children's Hunters for a fraction of the cost... a benefit of having small feet). Entertaining kids indoors while it's raining outdoors is well, um, interesting (ball pit above and see blow dryer picture below).
My brother has me addicted to a new iphone game.  It's called Draw Something and it's a free app. I guess you could say it's an iphone version of pictionary.  Here's one of my, umm, drawings.
blow-drying the food... it's the new thing to do.
Preston went to his first movie with his friends (him and her) on Saturday.

product of the week: ZZ plant

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

No green thumb?  Well, no worries.  Me neither.

No, seriously. I've killed every house plant I've ever purchased.  There was this one philodendron I had a good run with.  I even named her.  We called her Edna.  Then we moved.  Sadly, Edna did not survive the move.

I wrote off fancy houseplants until I discovered ZZ plants at our local Ikea a couple of years ago. ZZ stands for Zamioculcas Zamiifolia (try saying that three times fast).

I bought my first close to three years ago. I now have three, and all are still alive and thriving. They're seriously hard to kill. Trust me. I read they can be poisonous to kiddos so I've made sure they are well out of P's reach for now.
There you go.  Go get yourself a ZZ plant. (Last I checked I remember them being healthy and less than $15 at Ikea).
